Frequently Asked Questions

How does Absolute Doula Care work?

Parents hire a certified postpartum doula to help from a few weeks to several months, and from 4 to 8 hours a day.
More time may be needed in some cases and 24 hour services, week-end and overnight help and travel can be arranged.
A certified lactation counselor is very important to have as an early support person to help you get of to a great start with your breastfeeding and later on to assess and help you maintain your milk supply. Lactation counselors are hired on a as need basis and can come several times to evaluate your progress and can refer you if needed.
Family members can contract the help of a doula or a lactation counselor. It's a wonderful gift to give for those who can not be there themselves to assist their loved ones.

Who benefits from your help?

Anyone who has recently given birth to or adopted a child and could use an experienced person to show them how to comfort, bathe, swaddle their newborn and how to work through the everyday challenges of being new parents. Any breastfeeding couple can get their questions and concerns answered.

What are your strengths?

I have worked with families in hospital settings for almost 20 years and have helped them adjust to their newborn or sick child so that they feel more comfortable in making decisions and providing care for them. I am trained and certified through DONA (Doulas of North America )to provide physical, emotional and educational support during postpartum period and have experience with postpartum depression and postpartum mood disorders. I am also a certfied lactation counselor and can help you with any breastfeeding issues that arise.

What makes Absolute Doula Care different from other doula services?

'Absolute' means unconditional, entirely. I specialize in postpartum doula care only. That way I will be able to support you and your specific needs at all times.I trained to become a certified lactation counselor so that I can address your breastfeeding questions as well.
Families choose me so they have a greater level of comfort knowing that they have a trained professional. They feel more open to ask questions and know that they won't be judged.
I am able to give you local resources, referrals and support groups and will go with you to them if needed.

What changes do you see in the next few years?

More young people live away from their families and won't be able to rely on them for help as the grandparents are working and can only visit for a limited time, usually the first days after the baby is born. Fewer new moms have had the chance to watch their own parents or aunts/uncles care for younger family members. Having a chance to hire a professional helps them ensure faster recovery from childbirth, have greater success at breastfeeing and increases self-confidence and decreases postpartum depression.
